Nearly everyone has a desire to get ahead in life. A principal reason
for doing so is to be able to enjoy the fruits of our labors
— our leisure time that we spend with family and friends or
pursuing personal interests that create enjoyment for us.
Of course, some of us choose to spend our free time laboring in
our gardens, but it is a labor of love. Home gardening is a
favorite pastime of people throughout the world, as it has been for
thousands of years. Cultivation of grains, the evolutionary step that
enabled Man to transcend from his migratory lifestyle to one in which he
became capable of establishing static domiciles, itself evolved from a
survival tool to one of the earliest means of transforming and bettering
our living environments. Modern gardening is the result of this evolution,
although perhaps not its culmination. Science fiction writers and National
Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) scientists alike have
envisioned bold plans for terraforming entire planets such as Mars and
even Venus to make them habitable for human life.
Those of us whose hobby is home gardening care not for future visions of
distant planets when Fall planting season rolls around and we contemplate
the beauty of our gardens in full bloom the following Spring. The
assortment of themes available to gardeners — from a stately
English garden to a Japanese bonsai garden to water gardens to the natural
appearance of a butterfly garden — supplies a limitless pallet of
creativity from which one can paint with a living brush. We seek to
enhance your gardening delight by providing resources to help you improve
your home gardening skills, obtain quality garden supplies, learn a bit
about the history of gardening, and just brighten your day with thoughts
evoked by Nature and the splendor of gardens past and present.
