Ten Spider 1,000,000th Visitor!

I rarely blog any more; though I’d like to, I simply don’t have the time. However, I must offer a brief post to thank our visitors for their ongoing support. While it’s taken a while (just shy of eight years, actually), on 3 March 2011 the Ten Spider Enterprises family of websites crossed the one million visitor mark. We have reached this goal by serving everyone from school children to professionals in personal, business, educational and government venues.

Of course, many websites routinely achieve this level of activity within a week. Others never get there at all. I consider it an accomplishment that we’ve been able to make it this far while substantially improving our sites along the way. I look forward to our second million visitors, and hope you’ll join us by telling others about Ten Spider Enterprises, letting us know how we can improve and, if you are able, contributing a small donation to keep the sites free and growing.

Oh, yes, before I go, there is one other way you can contribute. We need writers. If you are an expert or have a strong interest in one of the general themes we cover, drop us a line to let us know what your interest is or send us an article you have written that we can use as an exclusive. Who knows? You may get published!

Ten Spider Enterprises Reaches Half Million Visitor Mark

Today marks a milestone for the Ten Spider Enterprises family of websites. While it did take some time to get there, I am proud to announce that we have today served our 500,000th visitor. Achieving this milestone did not come without considerable effort and a certain amount of sacrifice. While ours is certainly not the most popular site on the web (nor do we have any illusion about becoming such), we do boast a small but loyal following, as is evidenced by frequent searches on our name and a regular assortment of website hits from a multitude of nations worldwide.

In response to our growing popularity, I undertook an initiative late last year which involved splitting the website from its existing two domains (the main site and the Ten Spider Business Center) into a total of five. Ten Spider Pets & Companion Animals (Ten Spider Pets), Ten Spider Technology & Science (Ten Spider Tech) and Ten Spider Weather & Meteorology (Ten Spider Weather) are now separate sites, part of what I consider the Ten Spider Enterprises family of websites. I anticipate that the increased focus brought about through use of unique domains will better establish each site as an individual entity and enhance the ability of each to generate additional traffic. While the sites are still bound by a common menu system at the top and bottom of each page permitting easy access to all Ten Spider theme sets, this may change in the future.

I wish to thank everyone who has visited our websites for their interest. I offer each of you the opportunity to provide feedback so that we can continue improving the sites. At the same time, I encourage you to tell friends and acquaintances about us. If you are reading this post as a webmaster and consider our content to be relevant to your visitors, please feel free to link to us. We have for the past five years been dedicated to providing a manually-edited, safe source of information to our visitors with the goal of encouraging business and personal development. That goal will not change.

Looking back over the past five years, it is hard to believe that our sites began with but a single page and have now grown to encompass nearly 450 pages and thousands of links covering a wide variety of topics. I am optimistic that, with your help, the second half million visitors will arrive much more quickly than did the first.

Ten Spider Celebrates Its Fourth Anniversary

Today Ten Spider Enterprises celebrates its fourth anniversary. The last four years have been exciting ones; the upcoming year will continue in this tradition. Since its inception four years ago, the Ten Spider Enterprises website has grown to 396 pages covering ten broad themes and spanning two domains. I launched a major upgrade in June 2005 which is still ongoing, with 323 pages (78 over the past year) now upgraded. MORE ....

I am pleased to announce that we have now welcomed 300,000 visitors to our Ten Spider Enterprises website. This event comes exactly one month prior to our 4th anniversary. New Year's Resolution

New Year's resolutions — we all know about them, most of us make them, and they are usually broken or simply forgotten before we have progressed very far into the new year.

I usually don't make New Year's resolutions, but I am making an exception for 2007. My first resolution is to keep this blog updated and to try to make an entry as often as possible. Well, three days running ... that's a good start, anyway.

Let's see how long this resolution lasts ....

Honoring Gerald R. Ford, Our 38th President

I wish to take this opportunity to pay homage to Gerald R. Ford, 38th President of The United States of America, as he is laid to rest. A lawyer by profession, President Ford demonstrated a long history of service to his country not only as politician but as military officer; having served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations during World War II, he achieved the rank of Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy. A graduate of the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, President Ford was a gifted football star and all-around athlete who became well known during his presidency for his love of golf.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the President's wife, Betty Ford, and to his entire family. The Nation mourns his loss.

Happy New Year in 2007!

Here is to a happy and prosperous New Year for all visitors to the Ten Spider Enterprises website and readers of this blog.

The year is off to a good start for me, as my alma mater, the Penn State Nittany Lions, defeated the Tennessee Volunteers in the Outback Bowl (American college football) 20-10 in a hard-fought game that displayed the mettle of both teams. It was also a cleanly-fought game with good sportsmanship on both sides. While the Vols did eventually succumb, they did so with dignity and fought hard to the end. My congratulations to both teams.

I sincerely hope 2007 turns out to be a good year for as many as possible and that the World can heal some of the wounds it has incurred through the thoughtlessness and hatred that all too often appears to prevail. We should never forget all the good people and the good deeds and selfless acts that are performed every day, many of which go largely unnoticed by the media. While it is not a mandate of our website to report on general news issues, we will continue to serve as a repository for information that we feel may be of use to our visitors as we enter our fourth year of service.

2007, here we come!

Why Can't Google Get It Right?

I ask you, why can't Google™ seem to get it right? While those all around sing Google's praises, we continue to see erratic, unpredictable performance which makes traffic planning nearly impossible. The most recent Google SNAFU has resulted in a 40% loss in traffic as Google has suddenly and inexplicably delisted the majority of our 392 active web pages — something which has never happened to me in over three years of webmastering. Previously we've seen our website crash in the rankings, only to mysteriously rebound some months later. This time, our page listings are simply gone. Furthermore, of the listings remaining, many of these are outdated URLs that no longer exist. This has happened despite the fact that we employ Google Sitemaps and update them religiously each time we make a website change. MORE ....
